Blind Measurement Guide

Blind Measurement Guide

Simple Blind Measurement Tips

Measuring your windows accurately is the first step to getting the perfect fit for your new blinds. Whether you’re opting for Venetian, Roller, or Roman blinds, our easy-to-follow guide will help you measure like a pro. Follow these steps for a seamless, professional-looking fit for your blinds!

Tools You'll Need:

  • Steel measuring tape (avoid fabric tapes as they can stretch)

  • Pen and paper (or your phone’s notes app)

  • A step stool (for higher windows)

1. Decide on the Type of Mount: Inside or Outside Mount

Choosing the right mount type is crucial for both functionality and style. The mount you select can affect how much light enters the room, how much privacy you get, and how the blinds complement your interior design.

  • Inside Mount: The blinds will fit inside the window frame for a clean, streamlined look.

  • Outside Mount: The blinds will cover the entire window and overlap the frame, ideal for better light control and privacy.

Tip: If your window frame has obstructions (like handles or cranks), an outside mount might be a better choice.

2. Measuring for an Inside Mount

Width:

  1. Measure the width of the inside edge of the window frame at three points: top, middle, and bottom.

  2. Write down the smallest measurement. This ensures the blind fits snugly.

Height (Drop):

  1. Measure the height from the top inside edge of the frame to the bottom edge at three points: left, center, and right.

  2. Write down the largest measurement.

Depth:

  1. Measure the depth of the window frame to ensure it’s deep enough to accommodate the blinds. Check the product’s depth requirements before ordering.

3. Measuring for an Outside Mount

Width:

  1. Measure the width you want the blind to cover. We recommend adding 5-10 cm (2-4 inches) on either side of the window frame for better coverage.

  2. Write down the total width.

Height (Drop):

  1. Measure from the top of where you want the blind to start to the bottom of where you want it to end.

  2. Write down the total height.

Tip: For maximum privacy and light control, extend the blinds slightly beyond the window frame on all sides.

4. Additional Tips

Accuracy Tips

  • Double-check your measurements: Accuracy is key to ensuring your blinds fit perfectly.

  • Always measure in millimetres (mm): This is the standard measurement used for custom blinds.

Handling Obstructions

  • Round down for inside mounts and up for outside mounts: This ensures a snug fit for inside mounts and adequate coverage for outside mounts.

  • Consider obstructions: Check for window handles, locks, or other features that could interfere with your blinds.

5. Common Questions

What if my windows aren’t perfectly square?

If there’s a noticeable difference in measurements, opt for an outside mount to cover any imperfections.

Can I still measure if I have curtains?

Yes! Just ensure you measure the actual window dimensions, not the curtain area.
